Captain License

Captain's licenses issued by the United States Coast Guard are for operating commercial vessels. The OUPV or Six-Pack License allows up to six paying passengers, while the Master License is for more than six commercial passengers. Requirements for captain's licenses vary based on type and tonnage.

Boating License

Boating licenses are for recreational boating and demonstrate completion of a boater safety course. You can take this course with the USCG Auxiliary or the Department of Natural Resources, or find a FREE online course.
